Both aware and unaware, my guest arrived; my heart said, "When did he come?" My soul replied, "Behold, the moon-faced one."
He came to our house, and all like madmen, in search of that moon, went into the street.
He cried out from the house, "I am here," while we, unaware of this cry, shouted everywhere.
Our intoxicated nightingale lamented in our garden, like a dove, flying and crying, "Where, where?"
In the middle of the night, a group searched, thinking a thief had come, and the thief himself said, "A thief has come," and that thief was him.
His voice mingled with all their voices so that his voice could not be distinguished in their clamor.
And He is with you, meaning He is with you in this search; when you seek, seek Him in your quest.
He is closer to you than you are to yourself, so why go outside? Melt like snow, and wash yourself of yourself.
From love, the tongue of the soul blooms like a lily; keep your tongue silent, and take this habit from the lily.

Barks Interpretation

Totally conscious, and apropos of nothing, you come to see me.
