Where Everything Is Music

From Chapter 4: SPRING GIDDINESS
Ghazal 110

Break our harp, O exalted one! There are thousands of other harps here.
As we have fallen into the clutches of love, what do we lack in harps and trumpets?
If the world's lute and harp burn, there are many hidden harps, my friend!
The melody and resonance have reached the heavens, even if they do not reach deaf ears.
If the world's lamp and candle die, what sorrow, as stone and iron remain.
On the surface of the sea, songs are like straw; no pearl appears on the sea's surface.
Yet know the grace of straw from the pearl, for its reflection is the reflection of its lightning upon us.
All songs are branches of the longing for union; the branch and the root are not equal at all.
Close your mouth and open the window of your heart; through that path, converse with spirits.
