Fasting

Oh, what hidden sweetness lies in this empty belly, like a harp is a human being, neither more nor less.
Just as if the belly of the harp is filled, for instance, no sound comes from that full harp, neither high nor low.
If your brain and tears burn from fasting, from the burning, a cry will rise from your chest at every moment.
You burn a thousand veils with each breath from that burning, you raise a thousand levels with determination and steps.
Empty your belly and wail like a needy reed, empty your belly and speak secrets like a pen.
When your belly is full, on the day of resurrection, it brings the devil in place of your mind, an idol instead of the Kaaba.
When you fast, good morals gather, before you like servants and attendants.
Fast, for it is the seal of Solomon, do not give the seal to the devil, do not disrupt the kingdom.
And if your kingdom is lost from your hand and your army flees, your army will rise again under the banner.
The table descended from the sky to the fasting people, through the earnest prayers of Jesus, son of Mary.
In fasting, await the table of generosity, for the table of generosity is better than cabbage soup.

Barks Interpretation

There’s hidden sweetness in the stomach’s emptiness.
