The king whom they could not see openly was with them, hidden in their livelihood.
When reason is with you, overseeing your body, even though your sight is limited by it.
Your sight is not limited, oh dear one, by your stillness and movement in the test.
Is it surprising if the creator of that intellect is also with you, since you are not seeking refuge?
One becomes heedless of reason, rushing into evil, and then that intellect reproaches him.
You became heedless of your intellect, not the intellect itself, for it reproaches you due to its presence.
If it were not present and you were heedless, how could it slap you in reproach?
And if your soul were not heedless of it, how could it commit such madness and interpretation?
Thus, you and your intellect are like an astrolabe, from which you know the proximity of the sun of existence.
The proximity is without how; your intellect is close to you, without left, right, behind, or ahead.
How could the proximity without how not be for the king, when the intellect cannot discuss that path?
The movement in your finger is not before, after, left, or right of the finger.
In sleep and death, it departs from it; in wakefulness, it becomes its companion.
From what path does it come into your finger, for your finger has no benefit without it?
The light of the eye and the pupil in your sight, from what path did it come, beyond the six directions?
The world of creation is with direction and sides; know the world of command and attributes as without direction.
Know the world of command as without direction, oh idol; the commander is inevitably even more without direction.
The intellect and the sign of speech were without direction; more intellectual than intellect and more alive than life.
No creature is without attachment to it; that attachment is without how, oh uncle.
For separation and union do not exist in the soul; other than separation and union, thought does not conceive.
Other than separation and union, derive proof; but deriving proof does not quench the thirst.
Keep deriving proof if you are distant from the origin, until the vein of your manhood brings you to union.
How does reason find this attachment? It is bound by separation and union, this reason.
Thus, the Prophet advised us: seek little discussion about the essence of God.
That is because his imagination is on the path, where a hundred thousand veils have come to God.
Each one is accustomed to a veil; his imagination is that it is the very essence of Him.
Thus, the Prophet removed this imagination from him, so that his erroneous thoughts would not boil.
And whoever in his imagination leaves decorum, the Lord gave the disrespectful one a downfall.
The downfall is that he goes downward, thinking he is superior.
For the limit of the drunk is such that he does not know the sky from the earth.
In his wonders, he goes into thought, lost in greatness and awe.
When his creation makes beard and mustache disappear, he knows his limit and turns to the creator.
Except for "I cannot count," he does not say from the soul, for that expression is beyond count and limit.
