It was said that every craftsman who rose did not seek a place in craftsmanship.
The builder sought an unbuilt place, and the ceilings became ruined and collapsed.
The water carrier sought a jug without water, and the carpenter a house without a door.
At the time of hunting, they attacked from nonexistence, then all fled from nonexistence.
When you have no hope, why avoid it? Why fight with your own desires?
When your companion of desire is nonexistence, why avoid annihilation and nonexistence?
If you are not the companion of "no," O soul, why wait in the ambush of "no"?
Because you have torn your whole heart away, you have cast the net of your heart into the sea of "no."
So why flee from this sea of desire that has given you hundreds of thousands of catches?
Why did you call the leaf death? See the magic that showed you death as a leaf.
The magic of his craft closed both your eyes so that your soul desired the well.
In his imagination, from the deceit of the Creator, the whole desert above the well is poison and snakes.
Inevitably, he made the well a refuge so that death threw him into the well.
What I said about your errors, O dear one, listen to the words of Attar as well.
The story of Sultan Mahmud and the Indian slave
May God's mercy be upon him, he spoke of the mention of King Mahmud the Conqueror.
From the conquest of India before that noble one, a slave fell to him as a spoil.
Then he made him a caliph and seated him on his throne, chose him over the army, and called him a son.
The length and breadth and description of the story, seek it in the words of that great religion.
The essence of that child on this golden throne, washed beside the king of kings.
He would cry, shedding tears with burning, the king said to him, O victorious of the day.
Why do you cry when your fortune has become unpleasant, above the lands, akin to the king?
You are on this throne, and ministers and the army are lined up before your throne like stars and the moon.
The child said, my crying is because my mother is in that city and land.
You threatened me every time, saying, I see you in the hands of Mahmud the lion.
Then my father would fight my mother in response, saying, what anger and torment is this?
You find no other curse, easier than this deadly curse.
You are very merciless and very hard-hearted, for you kill her with a hundred swords.
I was bewildered by the words of both, fear and sorrow would fall into my heart.
How hellish is Mahmud, O wonder, that he has become a proverb in woe and grief.
I would tremble from fear of you, unaware of your honor and reverence.
Where is my mother to see now, me on the throne, O king of the world?
The poverty of that Mahmud is yours, O one without breadth, your nature is always afraid of him.
The poverty of that Mahmud is yours, O fearful heart, listen less to this misleading nature of a mother.
When you hunted the poverty for sure, like a child, you shed tears on the Day of Judgment.
Though in nurturing, the body is like a mother, yet it is more of an enemy than a hundred enemies.
When the body becomes ill, it seeks medicine, and if it becomes strong, it becomes a tyrant over you.
Consider this body full of harm as armor, neither suitable for winter nor summer.
A bad companion is good for patience, for patience opens the chest.
Patience with the moon keeps it illuminated at night, patience with the rose keeps it fragrant with thorns.
Patience of the lion among the dung and blood made it the young camel's nurse.
The patience of all prophets with deniers made them special to God and the master of the age.
Whoever you see with a proper garment, know that he sought it with patience and effort.
Whoever you see naked and destitute, it is a witness to his impatience.
Whoever is distressed and full of sorrow, has associated with deceit.
If you had patience and loyalty with fidelity, this separation would not have struck you.
You did not make a habit with God like honey with milk, that you do not love the setting ones.
Inevitably, you would not remain alone like a fire left on the road by a caravan.
When due to impatience, you became associated with others, in separation, you became full of sorrow and without goodness.
Your companionship is like giving gold tenfold, why do you place trust with a traitor?
Make a habit with Him so that your trusts are safe from decline and rebellion.
Make a habit with Him who created the habit, nurtured the habits of the prophets.
